The U.S. Department of Commerce Ranked 55 industry sectors by their level of IT intensiveness. Education was ranked number 55 — below coal mining.
It is important for schools to consider the meaning of this ranking while they prepare students for the 21st century workplace. While, education may never be in the top ten of industry sectors in IT intensiveness we do need to continually assess whether we are truly preparing students for a workplace inundated with IT.
